SiRT refers theft case related to CBRP officer to Restorative Justice
Published: 2026-03-12
The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team has determined a member of the Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP) unlawfully took personal property while conducting a search warrant and has referred the case to The Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program.
On September 30, 2025, CBRP officers executed a search warrant at a residence. Video footage shows one of the officers taking a small sign of minimal value from the residence. It was not documented as an item seized. The sign was eventually located in the officer’s office. The officer was cooperative with the investigation, admitted to taking the sign, and accepted responsibility for his actions.
After reviewing the evidence as well as the goals and objectives of restorative justice, the Director has determined this is an appropriate measure to address the harms and impacts of the situation.
The Director’s summary report, which includes more information about restorative justice is available online: 2025-0114-Directors-Summary-of-Investigation-69b2c8811aa85.pdf .
