The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the actions of a Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP) officer in Glace Bay, Cape Breton.
- On September 30, 2025 members of CBRP executed a search warrant at a residence in Glace Bay, in relation to an ongoing investigation.
- During the search, one of the officers removed an item from the residence.
- The matter was originally referred to SiRT by a member of the public on October 6, 2025 but it did not appear to meet the threshold for SiRT’s public interest mandate for a criminal investigation.
- After initial investigative steps by CBRP and an independent review by the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) additional information became available and it was discovered that the item was not taken as part of the investigation or logged as evidence and was retained by the officer who removed it.
