SiRT Investigating a police involved shooting that resulted in the death of an adult male in Moncton
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a police involved shooting that resulted in the death of an adult male in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
– On the afternoon of September 27, 2025, RCMP attended a report of a bank robbery on Mountain Road in Moncton. An adult male fled, stole a vehicle, and entered a residence.
– Shots were fired at police by the male and it is reported a vehicle and the residence were set on fire.
– The male fled and attempted to break into another residence nearby. Police attempted toarrest the individual, an officer discharged his firearm, striking the male, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the death of the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
