Summary
On April 20, 2026, SiRT received a referral from the RCMP regarding allegations an RCMP assaulted his intimate parter. Miramichi Police Force (MPF) initially responded to the call on April 17, 2026 and SiRT took over the investigation once notified of the incident.
As a result of SiRT’s investigation, I have determined there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe that Cst. James MacMillan committed criminal offences.
On June 8, 2026, Cst. James MacMillan was charged with one count of assault, pursuant to s. 266 of the Criminal Code, one count of assault by choking, pursuant to s. 267(c) of the Criminal Code, and one count of unsafe storage of a firearm, contrary to s. 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
The offences are alleged to have occurred on April 17, 2026 in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Cst. MacMillan will appear in Miramichi Provincial Court, 673 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB on August 24, 2026, at 9:30 am.
