SiRT Investigating Serious Injury Following Police Pursuit

The Serious Incident Response Team is investigating serious injuries that were sustained by a young adult male following a police pursuit.
Preliminary information suggests:
- On the morning of March 11, 2026, a member of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) was monitoring the pedestrian traffic on Lacewood and Thomas Raddall Drive during a student walk out, when he noticed a car being driven in an erratic manner.
- The officer activated his emergency equipment and proceeded in the direction the car had been driving. The car subsequently crashed into a pole.
- After reviewing medical records, it was discovered that the driver of the car had sustained serious injuries to his back and head.
Due to the serious injuries, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
