Published: 2025-11-28

Province(s): New Brunswick
Police Agency: Perth-Andover RCMP
Investigation: 2025-0128

The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating a member of the RCMP’s actions while responding to call in Carlingford, New Brunswick.

Preliminary information suggests:

  • On the night of October 3, 2025, several members of the Perth-Andover RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence in Carlingford.
  • While inside the residence a struggle ensued between one of the officers and an adult male.
  • The officer deployed his conductive energy weapon (CEW/Taser) twice which struck the male.
  • The male did not sustain a serious injury. However, the RCMP received a public complaint, and upon their review of the interaction had some concerns about the level of force the officer used.

The RCMP referred this matter to SiRT on November 13, 2025 and the agency has assumed responsibility for this investigation in the public interest.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
