SiRT Investigating Serious Injury in Sussex, New Brunswick
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by a young adult male in Sussex, New Brunswick.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- On the evening of June 26, 2025, a member of the Sussex RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residential home in Sussex.
- The officer arrived at the home and located a young adult male who was reportedly being violent towards staff. The male proceeded to be violent towards the officer, resisted arrest, spit, and damaged property.
- After the interaction the male complained of elbow pain and was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture to his arm.
Due to the serious injuries sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
