SiRT Investigating Serious Injury in New Minas, Nova Scotia

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by an adult male in New Minas, Nova Scotia

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • On the afternoon of August 25, 2025 members of the New Minas RCMP were called to assist paramedics on Highway 1 near New Minas.
  • An adult male was reported to have jumped from a moving vehicle and sustained injuries. He was resisting medical assistance that was required.
  • The injured male resisted police assistance and a struggle ensued as officers detained the male under the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act.
  • The male was transported to a local hospital and was later airlifted to Halifax with a serious head injury.

Due to the serious injury sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty,  in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
