SiRT Investigating Serious Injuries After Interaction with Halifax Regional Police Officer
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating serious injuries sustained by an adult male after an interaction with members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP).
Preliminary information suggests:
- In the early morning hours of April 18, 2026, members of HRP were involved in a vehicle pursuit and a spike belt was deployed to stop the vehicle.
- The driver, an adult male exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
- HRP officers tracked the male and arrested him.
- An altercation occurred during the arrest, and the male suffered serious injuries to his face and chest.
Due to the serious injuries, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
