The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating an incident involving members of the Codiac RCMP and a male youth in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Preliminary information suggests:

• On the morning of September 17, 2026, members of the Codiac RCMP were responding to a weapons call in the St. George Street area of Moncton.
• A male youth in possession of a firearm was located. The male shot in the direction of officers. Officers responded with lethal and nonlethal weapons.
• The male was then arrested after a short foot pursuit and brought to hospital by paramedics for further assessment.

SiRT received a referral from the RCMP shortly after the incident and started their investigation immediately.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
