Investigation: 2025-0053

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has found no reasonable grounds to believe a member of the Kings District RCMP committed a criminal offence in relation to allegations of domestic assault.

On May 23, 2025, the Kings District RCMP was contacted by a Child Protection Supervisor from the Department of Opportunities and Social Development Family and Children’s Services. Officials from a school in the Annapolis Valley contacted Family and Children’s Services to report that a child stated that their father, an RCMP officer, physically hurts them. The RCMP contacted SiRT that day and an investigation commenced.

The Director’s summary report is available online: SiRT Concludes Investigation into Alleged Domestic Assault | Serious Incident Response Team. In accordance with the SiRT Regulations under the Police Act, this report provides limited information to protect the identity and privacy of young persons involved.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
