SiRT Charges Member of RCMP with Uttering Threats

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has reasonable grounds to believe that a member of the Baddeck RCMP has committed a criminal offence.

On February 26, 2026, Baddeck RCMP contacted SiRT regarding a report that one of their officers uttered a threat against a female known to them.

Following an investigation, on April 8, 2026, Cst. Rickey Krszwda was charged with uttering threats pursuant to Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code.

Cst. Krszwda will appear in Sydney Provincial Court, 136 Charlotte St., on April 13, 2026, at 9:30am.

The Director’s summary report is available online. As the matter is before the courts SiRT will not provide further comment on the investigation.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
