Province(s): Nova Scotia
Police Agency: Halifax Regional Police

The province’s independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has released its report into a collision involving two motor vehicles and a pedestrian.

On June 25, 2022, SiRT received a referral from HRP regarding a two-vehicle collision with injuries including a pedestrian who was struck by one of the vehicles and who suffered a broken leg. Moments before the collision, HRP officers had attempted to stop a suspect vehicle, but quickly abandoned their efforts as the suspect vehicle refused to pull over and accelerated away.

The SiRT investigation found that the collision, and resulting injuries, were caused by the dangerous operation of the driver of the suspect vehicle in his attempt to flee police.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Alonzo Wright, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
