Summary
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating possible breach of trust related to the interference of an impaired driving investigation in New Brunswick.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- In February 2025 an adult male was arrested for impaired driving by a Department of Justice and Public Safety Peace Officer near Henderson Settlement, New Brunswick.
- On June 18, 2025 senior leadership at the Southeast District RCMP detachment learned that an officer from the Sussex RCMP detachment was believed to be using their role as an RCMP officer to influence the outcome of the investigation.
- The Sussex RCMP officer is known to the male who was arrested.
- A second RCMP officer from Caledonia detachment is also alleged to have attempted to influence the outcome of the investigation.
- SiRT was contacted by RCMP on June 19, 2025.
