Summary
In 2023, Fredericton Police Force (FPF) officers were conducting a drug investigation and executed a search warrant at a residence following the arrest of an accused person (the “Accused/Civilian Witness #2”), known to the police and had a criminal record. As part of the search of the residence, four cellular devices belonging to the Accused were seized. In May 2024, during a review of one of the cellular devices, photographs were discovered of the Subject Officer’s (the “SO”’s) computer containing sensitive police information. It was confirmed through the metadata that the photos of the SO’s computer were taken on the Accused’s phone at the Accused’s residence. SiRT was contacted on June 13, 2024, and commenced an investigation into possible Breach of Trust involving the SO.
