Summary
SiRT received a referral from the RCMP on July 16, 2020 concerning an RCMP officer operating his personal motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The officer was in custody at the time of the referral. SiRT’s investigation commenced that day and w as concluded on Au gust 27, 2020. The officer had been observed by someone known to him to be operating his personal motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. This person advised the RCMP of their observation. Shortly thereafter RCMP officers attended the officer’s residence and noted signs of impairment. The officer was arrested and taken into custody. Staff Sgt. Craig Learning was charged with the offensives of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
