Summary
On the afternoon of February 2, 2022, SiRT was contacted by the RCMP who reported an allegation of assault on an Affected Person (AP) by a member of the RCMP, Northeast Nova District. The incident is alle ged to have occurred on January 26, 2022. An investigation began that day and concluded on March 14, 2022. Information obtained during the investigation included a statement from the AP, statements from eight police officers, and five civilian witnesses. The notes of three police officers and a video were also reviewed and considered. On March 14, 2022, t wo charges of assault were laid against Constable Aaron Brown. Constable Brown is schedu led to appear in Sydney Provinci al Court on Ma y 17, 2022. Relevant legal issue: An assault is committed whenever a person intentionally applies force against another person without their consent.
