Summary
On January 29, 2024, the RCMP contacted SiRT regarding an incident that came to their attention involving an officer who had taken and shared intimate images of a male in custody without his knowledge on April 28, 2023. I have determined that there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe that the RCMP officer committed criminal offences.
On February 19, 2025, Constable Jonathan Murphy was charged with distribution of intimate images without consent contrary to s. 162.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and breach of trust by a public officer, contrary to s. 122(a) of the Criminal Code.
Constable Murphy will appear before the Saint John Provincial Court at 10 Peel Plaza, Saint John, NB, on February 28, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
