Officer Accused of Selling Contraband Tobacco

Summary
In early February 2016, Cape Breton Regional Police Service (CBRPS) received source information that one of their police officers was selling contraband tobacco cigarettes to members of the public. The information was passed along to the Serious Incident Response Team to follow up on the allegations. Upon receiving the information SiRT investigators enlisted the assistance of the Nova Scotia Compliance and Special Investigations Unit in conducting the investigation. The provincial CSI Unit specialize in conducting investigations involving the illegal sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products. Following an extensive investigation utilizing several investigational techniques there was no evidence gathered that would lead to any criminal charges against the Subject Officer in the investigation.
