Summary
On the evening of December 2, 2021 SiRT was contacted by the Halifax Regional Police who reported an incident of sexua l assault on the Affected Person (AP) by an officer of the Halifax police in the summer of 2020. An investigation was commenced on December 2, 2021and concluded on January 7, 2022. Information obtained during the investigation from the AP, three police officers, the Subject Officer (SO), three civilian witnesses and other evidence was reviewed and considered. On January 10, 2022one charge of sexual assault was laid against Constable Steven Mason. Constable Mason is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provinci al Court on February 15, 2022. Relevant legal issue: Sexual assault is the intentional application of force to another person, without that person’s consent, in circumstances of a sexual nature.
