SiRT Concludes Investigation into Allegations Involving Annapolis Royal Police Service Members
Published: 2026-10-23
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has concluded its investigation into allegations involving members of the Annapolis Royal Police Service (ARPS).
On May 15, 2026, SiRT received a referral concerning a police occurrence report alleging that two ARPS members had conspired to commit murder and that one ARPS member had extorted the other.
Given the seriousness of the allegations, SiRT assumed jurisdiction in the public interest.
The SIRT investigation focused on a conversation between two officers that allegedly took place in May 2025 about harming a person known to police, as well as an allegation that one of the officers threatened to release a recording of the conversation unless the other complied with a request concerning a workplace matter.
After carefully reviewing the evidence and the law, the SiRT Director determined there are no reasonable grounds to believe that either officer committed a criminal offence.
The Director’s detailed report is available online: 2026-0067-Directors-Summary-of-Investigation
SiRT is responsible for investigating matters involving death, serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has sole authority to determine whether charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
