SiRT Concludes Investigation into Serious Injury
Published: 2026-10-20
The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team has determined a member of the Codiac RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) did not commit a criminal offence in relation to the arrest of an adult male in Moncton, New Brunswick.
In the early morning of June 2, 2026, Codiac RCMP officers executed a search warrant at a property in Moncton, New Brunswick. Due to the risks associated with the operation, the RCMP deployed the ERT to assist. When officers entered the property, they announced their presence and lights and sirens were active. Three people on the property were cooperative with police and followed their directions. A fourth person, an adult male and owner of the property, appeared from the garage with a water bottle in his hand. An ERT officer issued multiple commands for the male to put his hands in the air. He did not comply and continued to walk toward the ERT member. The officer took the male to the ground, and the male sustained an injury to his face. He was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured nasal bone and nasal septal deviation.
The Director’s detailed report is available online: Summary-of-Investigation-6ad7848912e45.pdf .
