SiRT Investigating Circumstances Surrounding the Death of Male in New Brunswick

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male in Hardwicke, New Brunswick.

Preliminary information suggests:

  • On the night of August 19, 2026, RCMP received a call regarding noises and concern for a neighbour’s wellbeing at a residence in Hardwicke.
  • RCMP did not attend the residence that night and made arrangements for the Miramichi Mobile Crisis Unit to respond the following morning.
  • The following morning the crisis unit requested RCMP officers attend the call with them. While assisting with the call, RCMP members discovered an adult male deceased inside the residence.

RCMP contacted SiRT on August 21, 2026, and an investigation was started.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
