Preliminary information suggests:
- On the afternoon of April 26, 2026, HRP officers were responding to a shoplifting complaint when they located the alleged suspect riding a bicycle on Maynard Street in downtown Halifax.
- When attempting to stop the suspect, the police vehicle made contact with the bicycle.
- The male was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture.
After review of the medical records and due to the serious injury of the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
