Summary

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a serious injury that was sustained by an adult male after an interaction with members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP).

Preliminary information suggests:

  • On the afternoon of April 26, 2026, HRP officers were responding to a shoplifting complaint when they located the alleged suspect riding a bicycle on Maynard Street in downtown Halifax.
  • When attempting to stop the suspect, the police vehicle made contact with the bicycle.
  • The male was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture.

After review of the medical records and due to the serious injury of the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
