Press Release
SiRT Charges Member of Bathurst Police Force with Multiple Criminal Offences
Published: 2026-04-07
The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has reasonable grounds to believe that a member of the Bathurst Police Force (BPF) has committed criminal offences.
On May 27, 2025, BPF contacted SiRT regarding an allegation that an active member was harassing a former intimate partner. On June 27, 2025 another incident related to the initial referral was brought to the attention of SiRT. On June 28, 2025, a third related incident was also brought to the attention of SiRT by the RCMP, and due to the nature of the allegations, SiRT requested the RCMP conduct the investigation for that incident, with SiRT providing oversight and review.
Following the investigations and oversight, on April 7, 2026, Cst. Nathan Pitre was charged with criminal harassment, harassment by making repeated communications by way of telecommunication, breach of trust of a public office, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The offences are alleged to have occurred on different dates between November 1, 2022 and May 26, 2025.
Cst. Pitre will appear in Bathurst Provincial Court, 254 Patrick St., on June 29, 2026 at 9:30 am.
The Director’s detailed report can be found online: [link]. As the matter is before the courts SiRT will not provide further comment on the investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
